Shortly after beginning her career as a model, she transitioned into acting after appearing as a guest on 90's TV shows like Boy Meets World and High Incident. She made her film debut in the 1997 drama film Nowhere. After her performance of American Beauty (for which she won a BAFTA Award) and American Pie which attracted her much attention, she completed her move into more prominent roles. Since then she appeared as a co-star in Loser (2000) along with her American Pie co-star Jason Biggs as well as later portrayed the lead character in the comedy Sugar & Spice (2001).
